As with all Harvest Moon games, your television will play an important
part in deciding what you do with your day. This section will help
explain the various channels that you can watch from the TV in your
room. For more detail regarding the various TV show scripts please see
that section in the guide.

Weather News
***************************

This is probably going to be the channel that you will view most (of
not every single) day(s). This channel features Neo, your local weather
forecaster (that just happens to be a scientific fortune teller.) Neo
will predict the tomorrows weather for you every single day. This
channel really shines in season’s summer, autumn and winter when
Heartflame Island experiences storms.

Neo will predict tomorrow’s weather as being one of three outcomes. The
first being sunny. During this forecast the sun will shine brightly and
will be the weather you experience through most of the game. During
this weather you will still need to water your crops and can move about
at normal speed.

The second weather forecast is rainy. During rainy weather, the rain
takes care of any watering that you might have needed to do for the
entire day! Very convenient when you have large amounts of crops
growing on your fields. However, be careful during rainy weather when
planting new crops. Rarely when plating in the rain will your seeds get
washed away. You can still walk about your farm and the island at
normal speed.

The third forecast is stormy weather. This is the worst of all possible
forecasts and should be avoided at all costs! (See my crops guide on
how to help counter a storm from happening.) During this type of
weather your crops do not need to be watered...but at a price! Try to
wake up earlier then usual (4:00AM) and harvest all ripened crops
before the storm hits. When you arrive at your farm you’ll notice that
perhaps one (or several) crops are missing from your fields. This is
due to the storms severity and will only worsen as the storm continues
through the night. Fragile crops have a high chance of not surviving
the storm and will be blown away thus loosing that crop. That’s not to
say you should plant only hardy crops as they also have a chance
(though slimmer then fragile crops) of being destroyed as well. Plant
with care as you will ALWAYS receive at minimum 2 storms per season
with spring being the exception. Also, during a storm your character
will move at half his normal speed due to the high winds and this
includes the buggy as well! You will continue moving at normal speed in
caves however.

Herbal Garden
***************************

This channel features a new (and very welcome) addition to this Harvest
Moon game. Unlike its predecessors, Innocent Life has very advanced
technology and when it comes to harvesting flowers, there’s no
exception. If you plan on planting flowers on your farm you will come
to use this channel a lot. Instead of harvesting your flowers like you
would crops, the islanders have decided that flowers are best when
picked fresh from your farm as opposed to being shipped where they can
get damaged. Any time you have fully blossomed flowers growing on your
farm, run back downstairs and watch this channel. When you select this
channel for viewing, you will have three choices.

The first option is to ship flowers. Select this option to have the
gardeners come and harvest the flowers for you fresh the very next
morning. Select which flowers you would like to have shipped by
selecting them with the triangle button then hitting finish. The
gardeners will go over your order and ask you if this is ok. Tell them
yes and they will come by your farm tomorrow morning and harvest your
flowers for you! No matter how early you wake up you can never see them
harvesting your flowers, their just that fast!

The second option is to check your flowers status. This option will
show you exactly how many flowers you have growing on your farm listed
by type and how many flowers you’ve shipped that day. This option is
slightly useless as you can’t due anything at this menu (besides, I’ve
sure you remember how many flowers you planted right?)

The third option prompts you to hear an explanation. This then prompts
a second selection screen in which you can hear explanations about
shipping, seeds and flowers status. Choose this option to hear more
about how shipping works about how to acquire new seeds and about
understanding your flower’s status. But I’ve already done that so no
worries ^_^

Cooking Life
***************************

This show is critical if you plan on acquiring all the possible recipes
that the game has to offer and starts you on your way to becoming a
budding chef! Also, watching all 10 shows allows you to be able to
complete a winter request required later in the game so this channel is
a must watch even if you never set foot in the kitchen!

This channel features Dorothy, the mayor of Heartflame Island’s wife,
as the star chef. During airtime, she tells you all about a different
type of cooking skill once every week. The skills you will learn are
listed below in the order they are acquired in:

Drinks
Cutting
Cutting (Advanced)
Boiling
Cutting Drinks
Boiling (Advanced)
Grilling
Grilling (Advanced)
Oven Baked Dishes
Over Baked Treats

You cannot cook a specific meal or drink until you’ve first watched the
show but once you’ve learned it you can keep using that skill forever!
For more on the different recipes you can learn and their potential
requirements please see my cooking section for more details.

Drama
***************************

This channel is just for fun but eludes to different storyline
progressions throughout the game. It’s not required that you watch this
channel before those storyline events will occur though so don’t worry
if you’ve never seen any shows or missed an episode.

There are two shows that can be viewed from this channel and occur
during different times of the week. The first being “Where’s My Mommy?
A Kitten’s Journey” which airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. This
program alludes to a pet that you acquire later in spring of your first
year.

The second show features a terribly depressed young child entitled
“Melancholy Woods” and is about the tragic story of a young boy growing
up. If you wanted to get technical one could argue that the plot of
this show alludes to the child being you while starting off your farm
life...but I’m not too sure on this point. This show airs Tuesdays and
Thursdays.

Anime
***************************

This channel also is just for fun but similar to the drama channel
eludes to different storyline progressions throughout the game. Again,
it’s not required that you watch to show to still have the events
occur.

There are also two shows available for viewing on this channel. The
first being “Final Z Rangers” which airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and
Fridays. This show features everyone’s favorite super team the power
rangers (even though they don’t come right out and say it...you know
it’s them!) battling an alien life form that has come to earth for
unknown reasons. This show alludes to a certain event that happens
during your second year of game play.

The other show is my personal favorite and is entitled “Miss Cute,
Witch in Training” and airs on Saturdays and Sundays. This program
features a girl sent to the human world to train so that she can become
a full-fledged witch! Though she has a few blunders she means well...

World Ranch
***************************

This is the channel for all those hoping to add ranch life to their
already hectic farming schedule. Until you acquire all four blue gems
and place them on the altars on your farm and break the seal you can’t
really do much with this channel. But once you can...the wide world of
ranching really opens up to you! Viewing this channel will prompt you
to three choices.

The first option is to buy livestock and as you’ve probably guessed
allows you to purchase your very own animals. Selecting this option
will have the rancher tell you exactly how many more of a certain type
of animal you can still acquire for your farm. You cannot acquire more
then 5 animals of any type which means you can only have 5 cows, 5
chickens and 5 sheep maximum for a total of 15 animals.

However, if you are not at maximum capacity you many purchase more
animals. To purchase an animal, select the type of animal you want to
buy. Once you’ve selected the animal the rancher will prompt you to
give the animal a name. Unlike other Harvest Moons to date, you cannot
name your own animals which I thought was a bit of a bummer. There’s a
list of pre-picked names for you to choose from. If you aren’t fond of
a certain name select it anyways but choose the “NO” response to the
“do you like this name” question to bring up a new set of names. You
can continue in this fashion scrolling through the different names
until you find one that you like. The animal you just bought will
arrive at your farm the very next day.

The second option is to sell your livestock. This option allows you to
sell off any animals that you no longer want. The higher the animal has
in affection for you the more its worth. I do not suggest selling off
your animals unless you’re in a financial bind (which shouldn’t be
happening unless you aren’t planting crops or flowers or not gathering
any wild fruits or mushrooms) or unless you’re completely overburdened
with too many animals and are unable to take care of them all.

The third and final option is to hear an explanation. Similar to the
herbal gardens explanation option, here you can learn about livestock,
about shipping, about chicks and about your livestock’s ranks. But I’ve
got you covered in the farm animals section of this guide
