Harvest Moon A Wonderful Life: Animals
This covers what I have not already about animals. Since I have rarely mentioned
the chicken let's start with it.
Chickens......First buy a hen, you will get an egg from it every day and they wi
ll sell for 40 each. Then get a rooster, your hen will now sometimes lay fertili
zed eggs now. These are a little more pink, if you are not sure what kind of egg
it is, press x. Put the egg in the incubator and in roughly a season the egg
hatches. If you get a male, sell it once it is worth 450, if it's a female keep
it. If you are nice enough to your chicken, it will give you a golden egg which
can be sold for 300, a hefty price considering eggs and fertilized eggs sell for
40 and 50, respectively. If you can't seem to be able to put a fertilized egg in
an incubator, count how many fowls you have. If you have 8, there's your problem
sell one. Depending on how much chickens you have, you will have to buy new bird
feed from time to time.
Ducks.....If you have the Pond by Year 1, and are in Summer of Year 2, and have
read how to get a duck in the section entitled Pond above, and still can't seem
to get one, sell a chick. You can't have anyomore than 5 to get a duck. The duc
has eggs that are identical to the chicken, meaning, you can't tell them apart.
Also, if you have the Pond by year one, you can still get ducks on other summers
if you don't the second one.
Cows.....These are the best money makers, and have been thoroughly discussed
throughout this guide. Basically just put fodder in the feed box every time you
see an empty slot, talk to, brush, and heart it once a day. If weather permits,
let them outside and wash them.
Sheep.....I personally have 2, they aren't a whole lot of money(2500 G),and can
make you a lot of money if taken care of. Their wool will grow once a season,
wash them to improve the wool's quality. Then, when they have a LOT of wool, cut
the poor thing. Mine like to find a wall and run full speed at it all day, which
is weird, but I guess it is their only means of indoor exercise.
Bulls......If you buy one of these, when a miracle potion is used select farm's
bull and choose which bull you want. This is free. If you choose another bull it
will cost 2500 G and it will only be a normal bull. Different bulls and cow type
produce different calf types. These pretty much need the same attention as any
other cow.
Horses......During the Summer of the first chapter Takakura will give you a free
animal, a horse basically. You can get a different color, I've had white and an
orange-brown ,black and a darker brown one from what I've heard.
Goat....Order it from Van for 4000 year 2 and 3. After a year it won't give any
more milk...
Cat...This will be given to you by Romana sometime in the 3rd Ch, it just eats.
Dog, put food in it's bowl as much as possible(the cat also eats from it) and tr
ain it a lot every day until it won't train any more!
That pretty much covers the animals. Except of course how much it costs to maint
ain them(as well as selling their foods).

I have heard people say that you cannot get a girl in this game, but you can. In
the GC version you can only get a guy. What gender you get is not randomized(I
beleive) talk to Mr. Pots. I explain this more in the walkthrough section.
Section 20 is information about the kids, as said, so obviously this will take a
while to complete. The sons will be covered first. Also Chris gives them a fortu
ne, that will also be covered. Then I'll explain how to get them to follow a cer
tain career.

What would a farm be without animals?! Well I’m glad you asked that
question because in this section I’m going to tell you everything I
know about farm animals. First and foremost, you cannot keep any
animals on your farm before you have obtained and placed the 4 blue
jewels on the altars at your farm. Once you’ve meet this requirement
you may now begin purchasing animals!
***Chickens***
If you want to buy a chicken you must first obtain a cluck-o-matic. To
find one of these items, speak with Jonathon at the ranch. He can
usually be found in the barn, is wearing a pink shirt and has an afro.
He is proud that you broke the seal on the farm and sends you a cluck-
o-matic the very next day after you speak with him! This machine will
appear in the chicken area of your storage area.
To place an order for a chicken, watch the world ranch channel on your
TV and select the Buy livestock option. Chickens cost 500g and will
appear in your chicken area of the ruins the next day.
After receiving the cluck-o-matic you can now start purchasing
chickens. You only need to ever buy one chicken since you can incubate
that chickens eggs to hatch your own baby chicks! Simply pick up an egg
off of the conveyer belt and place it in the round incubator that’s
next to the hay on the floor. It takes 3 days for your egg to hatch and
become a chick. You must name you chick before it hatches in the same
manner you did when you first bought your chicken.
Unlike other Harvest Moons to date, you cannot name your own animals
which I thought was a bit of a bummer. There’s a list of pre-picked
names for you to choose from. If you aren’t fond of a certain name
select it anyways but choose the “NO” response to the “do you like this
name” question to bring up a new set of names. You can continue in this
fashion scrolling through the different names until you find one that
you like. The animal you just bought will arrive at your farm the very
next day.
Chickens do not need to be fed or given water to but to help increase
their happiness make sure to brush them everyday. To brush you animals
stand next to the animal you want to brush and press the triangle
button. A heart will appear above the animal you brushed causing their
affection for you to rise. Animals with a higher affection will produce
higher priced goods and sell for a higher price.
You don’t need to worry about shipping your eggs as they will be
automatically shipped everyday for you. The only time you should worry
about shipping something would be if you wanted to make mayonnaise in
which case you need to manually pick up and egg, face the mayonnaise
maker (which is directly next to your conveyer belt on the left) and
throw in egg in. A bottle of mayo will come popping back out! Don’t
forget that you will still need to throw the mayo into the shipping pod
yourself as this does not get automatically shipped.
***Sheep***

will need to wait one week after purchase to develop wool to ship
before they can be sheared. You cannot breed sheep on your farm and
must continue to buy more sheep if you want to raise additional

types of cows you can choose from: Holsteins or Jersey. Holsteins are
black & white cows while the Jersey cows are brown colored. Regardless
of type, all the cows you purchase are female.

You can’t own a horse in this game but you can still ride them however!
Once you have obtained a cluck-o-matic, Baa-o-matic and Moo-o-matic
speak with Jonathon again until he mentions the wild horses. He thinks
he remembers something about the fisherman knowing how to blow a
certain tune by whistling that will allow you to jump on a wild horses
back and ride it!
If you speak to the fisherman he will ask you if you want to learn how
to whistle, say YES to learn! After learning the special tune, approach
a wild horse that is running on the plains (only the large brown ones
work as the small grey one can’t support your weight) and press the
triangle button. You will then jump on the horses back and ride around
in a circle. Time does not elapse while riding the horse. You however
cannot control the direction of the horse and you can only ride in a
circle...its kinda lame actually but when you think about it, you do
have a ridiculously amazing buggy that runs pretty darn fast!
